Humanitarian Immigration Services: Compassionate Legal Support When You Need It Most
When safety, survival, or protection are on the line, immigration law becomes more than legal paperwork—it becomes a lifeline.
Reana Garcia Law Group proudly serves individuals in New Jersey who qualify for humanitarian immigration relief. Whether you are a survivor of domestic violence, a victim of serious crime, or someone fleeing unsafe conditions in your home country, we support you with dignity, respect, and skilled legal guidance.
We offer representation for the following humanitarian pathways:
- Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
- U Visa for Victims of Crime
- Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
Each of these options offers a chance for stability, protection, and a new beginning.
What Are Humanitarian Immigration Services?
Humanitarian immigration laws protect people who face threats to their safety or freedom—whether from violence, crime, or humanitarian crisis. These legal pathways can lead to lawful immigration status, work authorization, and in many cases, the opportunity to apply for permanent residence.
Vawa Self-petition (Violence Against Women Act)
Under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), individuals who are victims of abuse by a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident family member may apply for immigration relief without the abuser’s knowledge or cooperation.
Who Qualifies?
- Spouses or children of U.S. citizens or green card holders who have experienced physical, emotional, or psychological abuse
- Parents of U.S. citizens who are abusive
Key Benefits:
- You can apply confidentially
- Work authorization is available
- May lead to lawful permanent residence
VAWA protections are available to all genders—not just women.
U Visa (Victims Of Qualifying Crimes)
The U Visa provides protection for non-citizens who have suffered serious physical or mental abuse as victims of certain crimes and are willing to cooperate with law enforcement.
Qualifying Crimes Include:
- Domestic violence
- Sexual assault
- Kidnapping
- Trafficking
- Stalking
- Assault (with serious injury)
Key Benefits:
- Protection from deportation
- Eligibility for work permit
- Pathway to lawful permanent residency after 3 years
A law enforcement agency must sign a certification confirming your helpfulness in the investigation or prosecution. We assist in obtaining and presenting this certification.
Temporary Protected Status (Tps)
Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is available to individuals from designated countries experiencing armed conflict, natural disasters, or extraordinary conditions.
TPS May Be Available If:
- You are from a country currently designated for TPS by the U.S. government (e.g., Venezuela, Haiti, Ukraine, El Salvador)
- You were physically present in the U.S. on the required date and meet continuous residence rules
Key Benefits:
- Temporary protection from deportation
- Work authorization
- Eligibility to apply for travel authorization (Advance Parole)
TPS does not automatically lead to permanent residence, but it can be a stepping stone to other immigration options.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is my information confidential when applying under VAWA or a U Visa?
Yes. These programs are designed to protect your safety. Abusers or perpetrators are not notified.
Can I apply for more than one type of humanitarian relief?
Possibly. Some individuals may qualify for both VAWA and U Visa or may also be eligible for TPS. We’ll help evaluate all options.
Can I apply for a green card after receiving a U Visa or VAWA approval?
